Synopsis: Comedy drama. Assorted groups of people head to the popular seaside resort of Bexborough for a bank holiday weekend. One group taking the train from London is a family with an exasperated mother, May, restless young children and a father, Arthur, who likes to nip off to the pub. Another is Doreen Richards, 'Miss Fulham', who is due to enter a beauty contest at Bexborough (and beat Miss Mayfair), and her friend Milly who yearns for male companionship. Another couple, Geoffrey and Catharine, plan to check into a hotel as a married couple, though Catharine has misgivings about the wisdom of this idea. She is a nurse and her mind is more on a recently widowed (and possibly suicidal) young father, Stephen Howard, whose wife has died in childbirth, and whose wellbeing Catharine is concerned about. In the end, finding his phone off the hook, she leaves town, fearing for his safety.
